Patterns of gender variation in the speech of primary school-aged children in Australian English: the case of /p t k/

Abstract

This paper examines the pattern of gender-specific variation of voiceless plosives /p t k/ in the speech of primary school-aged children (ages 5-12) in Australian English. While results are preliminary, findings at this stage show gender-specific variation of the voiceless plosives in the speech of primary school-aged children, even in the youngest age group examined.
